Warner Bros. Games boss David Haddad is leaving the company, according to a new report.
type Haddad said he will step down as president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment after 12 years leading Warner Bros. Games.
The company has endured a troubled 12 months, starting with the disastrous launch of Rocksteady “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League”and then there was the disappointing Super Smash Bros.-style fighting game Multiplayer battle.
Warner Bros. Discovery Channel said The failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League cost its business $200 millionand MultiVersus adds another $100 million. The only new game released by Warner Bros. Games in Q3 2024 is Harry Potter: Quidditch Championfailed to impress.
“We recognize that (the games business) is currently performing well below its potential,” David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, said on a financial call.
From there, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's post-launch content wraps up with the delivery of its first-year roadmap. Warner Bros. has yet to announce Rocksteady's next game, but the company is reportedly helping to create a director's cut of Hogwarts Legacy. The storied British studio has seen a number of layoffs in recent months.
Although there are also questions about Mortal Kombat 1's financial performance NetherRealm CEO Ed Boon recently announced sales of over 5 million copies and teased future DLC following the release of a T-1000 Terminator cameo.
On the same financial call, Zaslav said Warner Bros. is doubling down on four games: Hogwarts Legacy (A sequel is already in the works), “Mortal Kombat,” “Game of Thrones” and DC, “especially Batman.” Warner Bros. recently released VR game Batman: Shadow of Arkham Launching exclusively on Meta Quest 3, Monolith Productions is working on a Wonder Woman game.
Zaslav added: “We focus our development efforts on these core franchises and increase our success rate through established studios.”
Variety reports that Haddad will remain at Warner Bros. Discovery for the next three months as the studio searches for his successor amid a significantly quieter release schedule.
