announcement The sequel to the beloved adventure game ōkami There were a lot of fan celebrations at last year’s competition awards, but we still know the meaning of the game very well. In a recent interview with project prospects, IGN was able to confirm some debris, including yes, the “ōkami sequel” is actually a direct sequel to the first match event.
Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed that the Okami sequel is “a continuation of the story we saw in the original game” when he approached IGN. We asked, as a follow-up, if the team could confirm that this is actually the great God Amaterasu in the trailer we saw at TGAS. When director Hideki Kamiya mysteriously answers “I want to know…” hirabayashi answers later.
While the news may not shock fans, there are major speculations about how the ōkami sequel will handle ōkami's successor. Technically, there is already a ōkami-ōkamiden of Nintendo DS game starring Amaterasu's kid Chibiterasu, and has many characters from the original game. However, ōkamiden encountered mixed feedback, both because it was released on DS rather than on the console, and it was created without the key original team members like Kamiya.
I asked the team about ōkamiden and if he would admit it, and Hirabayashi said:
“We know, of course there are some fans like the game. We also know the feedback of the game there, the way the story is shot, and now part of the story may not be consistent with people as we explained before, we also have sequels, which is The continuation of our original basic story.
However, the ending of ōkami does invite a sequel, no matter what happens in ōkamiden. There isn't much, the end of ōkami has Amaterasu, another character hasn't explored new places at all in the first game and has left a lot of room for this journey that can include Amaterasu and other protagonists' new ones struggle.
Unfortunately, we won't get more details for a while. In the same interview, the team confirmed that the ōkami sequel was in a very, very early development, and the team simply because they were excited and wanted. Sadly, according to Hirabayashi, this also means “it may take some time to talk again.”
