The following Last year, the sequel to “Worship Favorites ōkami” was announced at the Game AwardsAs Capcom's publisher returns, fans immediately began speculating that the game will be developed in Re Engine. After IGN talks to multiple potential clients of the project, IGN can now fully confirm the situation.
During a long interview, Machine Head Works producer Kiyohiko Sakata confirmed the use of RE Engine. When we asked him about the role of the machine head in the project, he answered as follows:
The way the machine head now works with Capcom and Clover is of course Capcom is the main IP holder of ōkami, which determines the main direction of the game. We have Clover as the development of this project. Machine Head Works’ work is through several titles that have worked with Capcom before, so we know what Capcom needs to create games. This is something that works on the head of the machine, with experience and knowledge. We also have experience working with Kamiya-san. So we have both Capcom and Crocodile experience, and we act like a bridge between Crocodile and Capcom.
In addition to this, we also have experience using RE Engine, the game engine we use for the project. Therefore, the developers of Clovers have no experience using this engine, but Machine Head Works has experience using it. So we are assisting them. Also under our leadership, the machine staff, we have experience actually working with the original ōkami game and will also help us develop this title.
Later in the interview, we asked about RE Engine's RE engine that appeals to the team, which is especially useful for the Okami sequel if something can be done with RE Engine. Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi's response was simple: “Yes.”
Then he elaborated on a point in detail: “But, of course, we can't go into details at this point. But we are from Capcom, and we believe that at this point we wouldn't be aware of (Director Hideki) Kamiya-San The artistic dream of this project.”
Kamiya also interjected: “So, RE Engine is of course known for showing the best games they have. Very, very good expression. So we believe people are expecting and waiting for the RE Engine quality level of this game, too .
Later in the interview, the leader teased RE Engine again, and Sakata noted that this might allow the team to do something with the ōkami sequel they wanted to do with the first ōkami, but not. “With today's technology, we're able to achieve all of this we've tried to achieve in the days we've been, even bigger than we're working with the RE engine,” he said.
The Re Engine is a tiny engine for the moon engine, and is a proprietary engine from Capcom, originally designed for the Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Since then, Capcom has used it in all its major games, most notably the Resident Evil series, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter and Dragon’s dogma. Most of the games made in RE Engine have a rather realistic art style (with some smaller exceptions), which makes you excited to imagine what it might be possible for Okami's special art style. Capcom is Working with a new succession engine is currently underwayknown as Rex. Its technology is said to be slowly integrating into existing RE engines, meaning we may also see some of its elements in the ōkami sequel.
