The free-play 3V3 shooter Ghost Divide is six months after its first launch in September 2024 and arrives on the PS5 and Xbox series X|S|S|S|S. Its developer, Mountaintop Studios, is also closing.
Nate Mitchell, CEO of MATEANTOP The news was confirmed in a statement posted on social media today.
“Unfortunately, the release of Season 1 didn’t achieve the level of success we maintained the game and maintained the top of the hill,” the post explained.
After the first week, the team was optimistic, reporting that the game attracted about 400,000 players – peak concurrency counts across all platforms were about 10,000.
“But over time, we haven’t seen enough active players and revenue to cover the daily expenses of the ghost and studio.” “We have expanded the remaining funds as much as possible since the PC launch, but at this point, we don’t have the funds to support the game.”
“We are pursuing all the avenues to keep moving forward, including finding publishers, additional investments and/or acquisitions. In the end, we can't make it work. The industry is in a tough position right now.”
Spectre Divide will be offline for the next 30 days, and any money players spend will be refunded since Season 1 was released.
The news, along with the October 2024 report, said Spectre Divide “is everywhere”.
“The server is not shut down, and the update will not stop,” Mitchell said at the time. Mountaintop has “the funding that has supported the ghost for a long time.”
IGN's Positive preview of the Spectre Divide for August 2024 Its interesting binary system is praised on the Tactical 3V3 shooter, which gives players control over two characters during the game. However, its quick shutdown message is after the hissing of many other live services, including Rocksteady's failure Suicide Squad: Kill Justice League And Sony's harmony.
