To solve the two-week problem, confusion and occasional answers about the price of the Nintendo Switch 2, Booking,,,,, DLC,,,,, Switch version 2 upgrade,,,,, Controllerand more, this is another weird situation added to the heap. According to the FAQ of the upcoming game Rune Factory: Guardian of Azuma, at least some Nintendo Switch 2 physical cartridges will be compatible with Nintendo Switch 1.
This is from this Wonderful FAQsincluding the following:
What is the physical “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition”?
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a red 64GB gaming card that includes Nintendo Switch gaming and upgrade package.
No need to download the full game: Just insert the card into your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 Console, and the correct version will start automatically.
Like most modern titles, small updates or patches may be available when launched to provide smaller fixes and improvements, but rest assured: the full game is already on the game card and can be played from day one.
This shows that you can buy the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Azuma Guardians and insert it into Nintendo Switch 1 to play the game's Nintendo Switch 1 Edition game if you have the option. If so, this is the first time we have heard the ability to play certain Switch 2 cartridges on Switch 1.

We also know that Nintendo Switch 2 (such as Mario Kart World) exclusive games or Nintendo Switch 1 games (Zelda’s legend: The legend of Wild Switch 2 Edition of Wild Switch 2 Edition, and all upgrades) cannot be played on Switch 1. However, can you insert the Switch 2 Cartridge and insert the Switch 1 for Switch 1 for Switch 1 for Switch 1 for Switch 1 for Switch 1 Switch sects of Switch 1 for swect of Switch 1 for s switch 1 forth switch of Switch 1 for s sects of Switch 1 version. Some players have Discover images on the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour This suggests that a tiny “notch” in the plastic of the switch 2 cartridge may prevent this, but whether the notch is preventive remains to be seen.
It is not clear how this will apply. We know first-party and some third-party physics Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games Will include basic gaming and Switch 2 Edition upgrades on the cartridgewhile other third parties may choose to publish Switch 2 Edition Games as download code in the physical packaging. also, Some Boxed Nintendo Switch 2 Games Instead of actually using the game on the cartridge, the game key card will allow you to download after inserting the game.
So essentially, when you buy a Nintendo Switch 2 boxed game at a retail store, you might get any of the following:
- Physical Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive Gaming Ink Boxes Only Used on Switch 2
- Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game, which has a Nintendo Switch 1 version on the cartridge as well as a Switch 2 upgrade that may or may not be played on the basic versions on Switch 2 and Switch 1.
- A game key card without a game, but allows you to download the game in question (maybe not also used on Switch 1)
- Physical box with download key for switch 2, which may also be used on switch 1 and may not work
If all of this has your head spinning, you are not alone. What you're going to buy when you buy a boxed Nintendo Switch 2 game, it's really confusing to ride, and Nintendo has been reluctant to step in and clarify everything. We contacted Nintendo for comments about the wonderful FAQ, specifically asking if there are indeed some Switch 2 cartridges that can play on Switch 1 and if so, it can play. If more information surfaces, we will update this story.
