Advertisements for four unproven mobile games – Jittle Heroes Mobile, Call of Duty: Sniper and Call of Duty: Zombie Defender and Crashing Bandicoot Brawl – all said to feature art that players consider AI-generated.
This news came a few days later Activision acknowledges the use of AI-generated assets in Black Ops 6. Furthermore, it seems that some of these mobile games may not even exist, as only guitar hero phones have been officially recognized on Activision's social media.
Ads for these rumored games are reportedly appearing on Facebook and Instagram, and include links to surveys where players can share unpublished opinions on the game.
The guitar hero mobile ad in particular seems to really upset players who have seen it. The game's artistic features are four weird guitarists, each holding a weirder red guitar. The weird look of the ad does not seem to be the result of Activision's attempt at a new art style, but rather a sign of the art players think of as AI-generated: blurry, weird shapes and non-stick assets.
Even as strangers, some of these mobile games don't seem to exist. Guitar Hero Mobile, Crash Bandicoot Brawl and Activision's not officially announced Call of Duty, while Guitar Hero Mobile is the only one with Viewable ads Beyond Facebook and Instagram ads.
Hawkeye fans did manage to dig geeklab on guitar hero mobile pagea mobile marketing platform that helps developers measure player interests. GeekLab's website says there is “creating App Store pages, testing product pages, researching competitors, building assets, running surveys, running A/B tests and optimizing the app store before publishing the app.” Click Get on Guitar Hero Mobile Page Take players to the survey (Also hosted on the GeekLab website).
The two Call of Duty titles and the crashed Bandicoot Brawl mobile game don't seem to have a GeekLab page, nor an official page on the Activision site, but Facebook and Instagram users claim that ads for all three games (Plus Guitar Hero Mobile) often run on two Meta-owned social media sites. According to players, the artistic features on the guitar hero mobile Geeklab page also appear to include AI-generated assets. Apart from the weird shapes of the guitarist and his instruments, the speakers on the stage seem to face in multiple directions at the same time.
“Thank you for the event,” a satirical player commented on a guitar hero mobile Instagram post. “Thank you for killing any interest in the game. It makes you not easy to support you.”
Activision declined to comment when asked about the ads and their reports using AI-generated assets.
