Assassin's Creed Shadow is the best-selling game in the United States in March

March was a big month for new releases, with seven of the top 20 games entering the charts for the first time, including WWE 2K24 (No.4), Split Fiction (No.5), Bleach: Rebirth of Souls (No.9), Xenoblade Chronicles X (No.17), and Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune & Dunan Unification Wars (No.18). Hello Kitty Island Adventure also specializes in Nintendo Ranked fourth on the Switch, and the free game Fragpunk ranked 8th in the top 10 steam rankings for monthly active users (MAUS).

Second place in the month after Assassin's Creed, this month is another debut title: MLB: Show 25, which is also PlayStation's best-selling game of the month. In the same debut month last year, its sales were 23% higher than its predecessor Major League Baseball (MLB) 24 points 23%.

Other matches in March include Fortnite, which leads all Maus games on Xbox and PlayStation, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which stands out on PlayStation from 103 February to 10 March, especially due to being added to PS+. Co-op Horror Games Warehouse leap from No. 93 in February's debut month to No. 1 on Steam Mau Chart in March, which is probably due to As time goes by, the social media virus develops.

While all these exciting new versions have done a great job for themselves, March is actually a lower month for the entire game. Overall gaming spending fell 6% year-on-year to $4.7 billion, and content spending fell 4% year-on-year to $4.2 billion. Non-mobile subscriptions and digital premium downloads on hosts are the only content areas that show growth.

I asked Piscatella about the context of why content spending has decreased, and he pointed out that mobile devices are the main perpetrators. Mobile spending fell 6% year-on-year, according to Sensortower's report.

“Mobile content is an important part of content, meaning that the decline there usually means the market is down. Group full game download spending rose in March this year. But it fell on mobile devices and fell in full game spending for PCs and lowered content spending on content spending, which means overall content has declined.”

As for hardware, spending fell 25% year-on-year to $286 million, the lowest March spending since 2019 ($279 million). The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console this month, but its sales fell 26% year-on-year. Xbox ranked second, down 9% year-on-year, while conversion sales fell 37% from last year, which could be expected to be the upcoming successor, the Nintendo Switch 2.
