ROG Ally Z1 Extreme features a sharp 1080p screen, AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, 16GB LPDDR5 6400 RAM, and a built-in 512GB NVMe SSD. Compared to the $500 base model ROG Ally, the Z1 Extreme has two extra CPU cores and a better GPU, which can have a meaningful impact on newer, more graphically demanding games.
The ROG Ally offers impressive value for money. It won't play graphically demanding games at the highest settings, but you can still play many AAA games at 1080p resolution and at least 30 fps. Even at $650, the ROG Ally performs admirably; at $450, the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is a steal.
Granted, you can fill up a 512GB SSD fairly quickly these days, but the ROG Ally has a microSD card slot that lets you expand storage cheaply. Asus does have a proprietary app called Armory Crate that gives you a more traditional console-like gaming interface, but you'll still have to spend some time navigating Windows 11.

The ROG Ally X is significantly more expensive, especially right now, at $800 for the 1TB model and $900 for the 2TB model.
