Castlevania animated series Blu-ray set on sale at Amazon

Netflix's popular Castlevania animated adaptation Nocturne continues with its second season this month. All eight episodes of season two are now available to stream, and fans may eventually be able to add them to their Blu-ray collections. The first five Castlevania seasons – the first of Nocturne and the fourth of the original animated saga – are available on Blu-ray. Fans of the show would also like to see Castlevania: The Art of the Animated Seriesa nearly 200-page book detailing the development of the show's original fourth season.

In case you missed it when it first aired, the original Castlevania series followed vampire hunter Trevor Belmont, the powerful sorceress Sypha, and Alucard as they battled Dracula and his demonic army. The second half of the show focuses on a group of vampires looking to create their own undead kingdom, as well as the foul-mouthed Grim Reaper himself (probably Malcolm McDowell's best character ever).

As you'd expect, the show is violent, with beautifully animated action scenes, and in some of the quieter scenes, jokes that are sharper than a razor blade. The Blu-ray comes with behind-the-scenes videos, voice actor interviews, storyboards, art galleries and other special features.

Nocturne Season 1 is set hundreds of years after the original Castlevania animated series, in the style of Richter Belmont, and draws inspiration from the 1993 PC Engine game Rondo, which some fans may Learn more about this game by its different names. Rondo of Blood was exclusive to Japan at launch; Konami brought the story to North America in the form of Castlevania: Dracula X on the Super Nintendo. Nocturne Season 2 answers many of the questions left behind by Season 1 while leaving the door open for a third season.

Netflix has not renewed Castlevania: Nocturne for a third season. It is also possible that instead of continuing the story of “Nocturne”, it will start a new “Castlevania” storyline. The Castlevania animated series has been a highlight of the franchise in recent years, so here's hoping it continues in some way.
