Microsoft's next big game is an RPG from Outer Worlds developer Obsidian, announced to be released in February. Unlike Obsidian's other RPGs, Avowed is not an open-world game. “This is the best game,” said sworn regional director Berto Ritger.
Contrary to what happens in an open world, large “defined areas” are declared. Ritger said the established and unique areas are “good pacing mechanics” for the choices players make.
“We know roughly what you do before we go to the next thing. It's still a very open structure within these areas and you can do whatever you want in most areas, but it's not a continuous area Any time, any time,” Rittger said in the interview. Xbox wire.

Narrative designer Kate Dollarhyde echoed Ritger, saying in the interview that one of the difficult elements of open-world games is pacing.
“You never know where the player is and what he's doing at any given time. So having these areas happen in sequence means we always know what content you just came from on the key path,” Dollarhyde said. “Maybe it's not you who's done. But we always knew you just had this (core) experience.”
The release was announced on February 18 for Xbox and PC, and it will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. In addition to the announcement, Obsidian is also producing The Outer Worlds 2, which will also be released in 2025.
