Diablo 4's 2025 roadmap is not good for hardcore fans – even Blizzard's former president isn't sure where the game will go

Diablo 4 received its first content chart this week, outlining the 2025 action role-playing game and ridiculing the 2026 event.
IGN interviews game director Brent Gibson to browse Diablo 4 roadmapdiscuss everything from extension two to the upcoming IP collaboration. However, after the roadmap was released, Diablo 4's community expressed concern for 2025 and questioned whether there was enough new content to get them back.

“Oh boy! Can't wait for the new Hell color and temporary power.” Redditor Inangeditor says. “This will be so thick!”
This is a point shared by many hardcore Diablo 4 players who want to be even more excited about the upcoming content.
“The new season in other ARPGs is like ‘Let’s go into a small housing system where you can build a home base with suppliers who can give you more gear’ or ‘Let’s put us into the entire transport system, bringing materials from traders on other lands to upgrade items in a way that completely changes the classroom mechanics,” added FeldOneQ2Wire.
“The new season in D4 is 'What color are we making this time?' “What ability and reputation skins are we going to stir up this time? ” “
“I'm not a Diablo 4 hater, I love this game, but the bones here don't seem to have a lot of meat, which is a bit disappointing,” Fraftantbutte said.
Artyfowl444 added: “'and more' did a lot of heavy lifting here.”
Online debate reaches the point where Diablo Community Manager Lyricana_nightrayne Enter the main thread on Diablo 4 Son Reddit to resolve complaints: “We added less detail later on the roadmap to fit what the team is still doing.” “This is not all about 2025 :)”
Part of the problem is Blizzard's single-shot approach to seasonal content on Diablo 4. Some experiences like this will reset every season, while others complain that it makes every new season meaninglessly involved. Some say Diablo 4 will become overwhelming if all seasonal content remains the same, others say they are considering throwing away the game and when more meaningful content comes out until 2026.
Mike Ybarra, former president and company boss of Microsoft's Blizzard Entertainment, is in a post about X/ Twitter.
“Don't ship a box,” Ibara said. “Seasons need to get rid of the shipping cycle, spend two months solving the problem, and repeating it.
“Stop and give the team time to really solve the problem of the final game. A weekly match, one to three hits the 'Uber' boss 500 times in a unique identity, and then exit until next season is simply not fun.
“The expansion schedule is too long – it should be once a year. Reduce the ‘story’ investment (it’s expensive for one-time elements in ARPGs) and focus on new courses, new mob types, new final game activities that last for more than a few days.
“If the cycle continues to ship by solving the basic problems only, I'm not sure where Diablo is going. You can add all the final game activities you want, but you'll run on the same problem. At some point, there are a lot of random things that aren't worth the effort.”
Comments about Diablo 4 extensions are related to delays on the second delay, which expired in 2025 but will now be launched in 2026. Blizzard's initial plan for Diablo 4 is an annual expansion plan released, while the hatred ships, ships launched in 2024, will jump to the second line of expansion in 2025.
In our interview, Gibson discusses the reality of continuing to develop Diablo 4 as a live service game with free seasonal content as well as a large paid extension.
“I definitely feel that gamers are hungry than ever,” Gibson said. “Even if your appetite for them is satisfying today, tomorrow's appetite will change. So you only need a good position to adapt to this situation. Because a lot of the time, the importance of this month will be completely different. Three months are completely different from now on. Based on your other game or your own game state, we can quickly and quickly move.
“So, it's definitely a new way of developing. It's definitely a high level of interaction with the community. What's interesting about Diablo is that we have a lot of different types of community, right? We have casual players, we have our hard-working players. They all fall into the partition of the type of type in it. So, we look at things in those moments, and the focus on these groups is the focus of the season, and their focus is important.
When you look at what we did in Season 8, we know we have a lot of boss nest feedback, so we are improving the quality of life for players who are the focus of their game genre, or we may move to a nightmare dungeon in Season 9, so we will address different groups in different groups.
Season 8 of Diablo Season 4 will be released in late April, and currently Season 9 will be in summer and Season 10.
