Dune: Awakening Developer Funcom released the latest information on the game's business model and post-release plan, confirming that the May 20 release date is “full launch” rather than early access.
The multiplayer survival game inspired by Frank Herbert's legendary science fiction novel, despite being called MMO, will not be subscribed to the movie's adaptation.
Instead, Funcom will continue to expand the game with free updates to content and features and “follow the classic business model of optional DLC.”
Funcom notes that it offers its existing and long-running MMOs such as Online Anarchy and Conan Exiles that are still available for free updates, DLCs and extensions a few years after launch. “Dune: Awakening is no exception, it will continue to expand with free updates bringing new content, features and enhancements,” Funcom said.
Dune: The standard version of Awakening costs $49.99, the Deluxe ($69.99) and Ultimate Edition ($89.99) all offer players five days ago launches and several unique projects. Dune: Awakening’s Season Pass Over time, Dune: Awakening’s Season Pass is available as part of the Deluxe Edition and Ultimate Edition, unlocking four DLCs for the first time over time.
In the Deluxe Edition, you also get the armor of Sardaukar, an elite military force that players are hunted during the game. The Ultimate Edition adds everything to it, plus iconic stills from Paul Atreides, movies from 2021, digital art books, digital soundtracks, unique color patterns, and Caladan Palace suits with buildings, locations and decorations.
Book any version of the awards ceremony, with a universal color pattern that can be applied to vehicles, weapons and armor, as well as the glass containers of Muad'dib, a basic interior that houses the iconic desert rats.
