How to better hear Call of Duty's footsteps with the audio focus settings of PS5

Hearing footsteps in Call of Duty is crucial to success, especially in the more competitive mode of the game. Thankfully, the latest system software updates from PlayStation 5 make listening easier Black Ops 6 and War Zone. Here we guide you through the new settings and provide suggestions on using the Audio Focus feature on the PS5.
What is PS5 audio focus?
Sony's latest news System software update reaches PlayStation 5 On April 24, 2025, this includes adding audio focus, an accessibility feature that allows you to zoom in and hear certain parts of the game audio more clearly.
The PS5's audio focus works similarly to the loudness equalization setting of the Call of Duty used by PC players. Loudness EQ reduces the high and low audio of the game, minimizing loud and unnecessary sounds while amplifying quieter sounds such as the footsteps of enemies. This has put console players at an audio disadvantage over the past few years.
Thankfully, if you are a PlayStation 5 player, the PC advantage can now be minimized. All you need to do is turn on the audio focus and make some choices.

How to use audio focus
First, make sure you update to the latest system update on the PS5.
- Then go to your PlayStation 5 settings
- Select Sound Settings
- Scroll down to volume settings
- Select audio focus
You will find presets for four focus types: boost pitch, boost sound, boost high pitch, and boost sound. Each preset can then be adjusted to a weak, neutral and strong level, and even the left and right audio channels can be selected to set separately.
Audio focus suggestions
Enhanced high pitch
this Enhanced high pitch The setup is designed specifically to help with footstep audio, as it details “high frequencies sound like footsteps and metallic sounds.”
While anyone can use it to gain a competitive advantage, it is important to note that audio focus is an accessibility feature designed for players with actual hearing loss. There will be streamers and content creators who use it on powerful settings to maximize their competitive advantage, but if you don't hear it hard, you may find that you don't need this setting to use it as the highest choice for optional sound enhancement.
I recommend starting with weakness or medium strength in this setting. I'm glad to have good listening and solid headphones, so I found that using a powerful Boost High Pitch is too much for me to use with a powerful setup. The footsteps don't sound painful, but some of the metal sounds included in the settings are usually ears. For me, the noise from some vehicles and the squeaking metal on the skeleton were almost unbearable.
I played Warzone for hours and played High Plight in various advantages. This definitely helps to improve footstep audio in an impressive way, and I wouldn't be surprised if I was reported as a liar. Sometimes I hear enemies walking from the other side of the mountain, and once I can hear an enemy approaching the enemy behind me in a gun battle, it's hard to hear in normal sound settings.
Enhance the quiet sound
this Enhance the quiet sound Prest said it amplifies “low volume sound at a wide range of frequencies.” Technically the footstep sounds low, so I decided to try setting it as a lighter alternative with a smaller treble.
I tried playing Warzone with this setting with medium intensity. I can still hear bigger steps than the normal setup, but it doesn't sound like the influence of using Boost High Pitch. The most influential audio is the enemy spreading to the grasslands of Vedansk. I could hear the rustling sound more clearly, which allowed me to point out their locations better.
So if you want to amplify the sound, this may be a gentler option, but you will find that boosting the high pitch is too much for your ears. This setting also allows you to hear more atmosphere sounds like wind and rustling that you may never hear, but that's not that Intel can help you win the game.
Audio focus Use only headphones. If you cannot adjust the audio focus settings, the headset may not be detected, so make sure to connect the headset. This setting should also work for other games on the PlayStation 5.
