Leaked internal video shows Sony is experimenting with an AI-powered PlayStation character.
edge Reported on the emergence of an internal video created by PlayStation Studios' Advanced Technology Group, which uses Aloy from Horizon Games to showcase AI-powered gaming characters.
The video was subsequently withdrawn from YouTube after Muso's copyright statement, The Verge, an internet law enforcement firm, listed Sony Interactive Entertainment as a customer. This shows that the video is legal. IGN asked Sony to comment.
According to Verge Report, in the video, Sony's interactive entertainment director Sharwin Raghoebardajal talks with AI-Power Aloy through voice prompts and AI-generated voice and facial animation.
Speech recognition is a speech-to-text whisper through Openai's voice-to-text whisper, conversations and decisions made through GPT-4 and Llama 3, speech synthesis through Sony's Emotional Voice Comprehensive (EVS) system, and facial animation through Sony MockingBird technology.
In the technical demonstration, Raghoebardajal asked Aloy how she performed, and she replied: “Hello, I'm dealing with it. Just dealing with a sore throat. How are you doing recently?”
The voice from Aloy's mouth is not voice actor Ashly Burch, who plays a role in video games. Instead, it’s a robotic sound, similar to any one you get from the thousands of text voice generators used to narrate social media posts. Ai Aloy's facial movements were stiff and her eyes looked lifeless as she talked to Raghoebardajal.
When asked how Aloy's search for her mother went, she replied: “I discovered that I was a clone of Dr. Elizabeth Sobeck, which gave me an idea of my purpose and origin.”
How does it feel to be a clone? Aloy replied: “Being a clone feels unique, connecting me with the past while allowing me to create my own path and future.”
The demo then transitions to the actual field of view that bans the West Game World, while Raghoebardajal continues the conversation while playing the game. Seeing players talk to characters they control, ironically, the irony of using Aloy as an AI-powered PlayStation character is obvious.
The demo is described as a prototype developed with the help of Horizon Studio guerrilla games, demonstrating the technology inside Sony. “It's just a possibility,” Raghoebardajal said in the video. While the video shows Sony's investment in exploring AI-powered PlayStation roles, it's worth noting that the company has not confirmed plans to include the technology in any public-facing PlayStation products, and it's impossible to even use PS5 games at this stage.
But seeing Sony behind the scenes here, it may not be surprising given that almost all competitors in the video game space are working on some of the described AI technology. Indeed, Xbox Maker Microsoft went all out, recently announced An AI called Muse aims to generate ideas for game design.
Generative AI is one of the hottest topics in the video game and entertainment industry, and has suffered huge layoffs in recent years. So far, the generated AI has attracted criticism from players and creators due to moral issues, rights issues, and AI efforts, and in fact, efforts to cultivate audiences. For example, Keyword Studio tries to create experimental games internally using full AI. The game failedkeyword quotes investors, that is, AI “cannot replace talent.”
EA said in September AI is the “core” of its business, recent Capcom says it is trying to generate AI The “hundreds of thousands” ideas needed to create an environment in the game.
Leader of PlayStation Productions and Leader of Products of PlayStation Studios Asad Qizilbash Weighing AI, saying its use in video games is important for Gen Z and alpha gamers They seek “personalization all over the world”.
“For example, non-player characters in the game can interact with players based on the behavior of the player. This is important for young Gen Z and Alpha audiences who are digital, looking for personalized first generations of the whole thing and seeking experiences that have greater meaning.”
Activision recently acknowledged using Generative AI for some kind of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Assets In amid strong opposition to the zombie Santa loading screen of “AI Slop”.
