Revealing the Nintendo Switch 2 game size, it looks like 256 GB of internal storage will keep most players on for a while

Nintendo has confirmed some Switch 2 game sizes, and thankfully, they are relatively small.
Japanese My Nintendo Store lists many Switch 2 games as well as their file sizes.
Nintendo Switch 2 has 256 GB of internal storageThis is a significant upgrade of the 32 GB available on OG switches and switch LITE and 64 GB on the switch OLED model.
Another big difference is that the Switch 2 requires a MicroSD Express card to provide up to 2 TB of extra storage, which means that the current switching model support for the MicroSDXC card cannot be transferred to the new console.
However, based on file sizes revealed in Japanese stores, the 256 GB internal storage time should keep most players for a while.
Nintendo Switch 2 game storage size:
As you would expect, the largest file size here is the Mario Kart world, but at 23.4 GB it only accounts for 10% of the total Switch 2 storage.
Compared to Mario Kart World Cyberpunk 2077on the Nintendo Switch 2 it weighs 64 GB. That's 25% of the Switch 2's internal storage space.
Nintendo has also confirmed several new ones recently Switching 2 game cards won't always come with actual gamesinstead contains a game download key. However, this is not the case with Cyberpunk 2077.
In context, one of the biggest games in the original switch, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is only 16 GB.
It is worth noting that the GameCube app size is expected to grow as new games are added to the library. At the time of release, the GameCube app contained Zelda's legend: Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur 2.
So, how can the Nintendo Switch 2 escape at a relatively small gaming size while offering 4K resolution?
In January, the Internet discovered a Nintendo patent, filed in July 2023, but was first published earlier this year Describes AI image upgrade technology This will help keep the video game download size small enough to fit physical gaming cartridges while providing up to 4K textures. It was thought that it was applied to the Nintendo Switch 2 at the time and may have been related to NVIDIA DLSS graphics technology.
NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Supersampling) is an AI-powered technology that uses machine learning to improve performance and image quality in games using real-time high-end, lower-resolution images.
This week, after Nintendo directly, Nintendo and Nvidia confirm that Switch 2's custom GPU can enable AI upgrades via DLSS and Ray Tracing.
NVIDIA describes it as a “customized NVIDIA processor with NVIDIA GPU that contains dedicated RT cores and tensors for stunning visual effects and AI-driven enhancements.”
These upgrades include up to 4K gaming in TV mode and up to 120 fps in handheld mode at 1080p. Nintendo Switch 2 also supports HDR, with AI upgraded to “enhanced visual effects and smooth gameplay”.
NVIDIA continues that the new RT core brings real-time ray tracing and provides “lifelike lighting, reflections and shadows” to a more immersive world.
Meanwhile, tensor cores, power AI-driven features such as DLSS, “increase resolution with clearer details without sacrificing image quality.”
However, the details are thin on the ground. IGN attended this week at a hardware-centric roundtable in New York. Nintendo Representative Confirm Switch 2 uses DLSSbut does not specify which version of the technology is or whether it has been customized for Switch 2. It was the same vague response when Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2's GPU was able to perform ray tracing.
What about the GPU itself? Tetsuya Sasaki, general manager of Nintendo's technical development department and senior director of technical development department, said Nintendo prefers not to add weeds to weeds like GPUs.
“Nintendo doesn’t share much on hardware specifications,” he said. “What we really like to focus on is the value we can offer consumers. But I believe our partner Nvidia will share some information.”
