FromSoftware has shared more information about its recently announced Switch 2 exclusive, Fool. The partnership with Nintendo seems to have influenced not only the gameplay style of FromSoft, but even the Guardians of the Hub area of Duskbloods turned into something different – very cute.
The trailer displayed during Switch 2 this week is closed directly with the lens of the winged rat character, drawing a glowing glyph on the lens, looking at the camera. Curious fans may be wondering what the mouse deal is. It turns out that this is our new hub companion.
Director Hayao Miyazaki said: “The character plays a similar role as the Fire Guardians of the Dark Souls series. They stay in the hub area to provide advice and guidance to the players.” In an interview with Nintendo.
“I think you can say we’re trying to do something Nintendo-style with the spirit of a partnership.”
When asked what Miyazaki meant, he added: “We tried some cute changes. Although I would say the character is actually an old gentleman (laughter).
Fromsoftware's Shrine Guardian has always been the central figure for players to travel around the world. Melina, the familiar faces of black, dolls and others are characters you return to travel over and over again, often providing the power to help you move forward.
However, it remains to be seen what advice and guidance the Winged Rat will provide with PVPVE games like Duskbloods. Miyazaki said Frofsoft's team has tried to introduce “many new and interesting ideas” so expect unexpected situations when it hits the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026.
