Switch 2 GameCube Controller works outside of Switch Online, but may experience “problems”

Nintendo confirmed it for Nintendo Switch 2 Will be compatible with other games Switch online GameCube Classic Librarybut there may be some problems when using it this way.

In a statement Nintendo LifeNintendo explains that the controller is designed for classic games, so problems can arise when used with other games. This confirms its compatibility with other Switch 2 software, although Nintendo is stuck with any issues caused by pointing out possible problems. Hopefully it can at least be with Super Smash Brothers Ultimate On switch 2.

“The Nintendo GameCube controller is designed to work with Nintendo Gamecube – Nintendo Classics Games Collection Games Collection, which is an optional way to play these games,” explains Nintendo's full statement. “Since it doesn't have all the buttons and features that can be used with the Nintendo Switch 2 system in other controllers, there may be some issues playing other games. The Nintendo GameCube controller can only be used on Nintendo Switch 2 and is not compatible with Nintendo Switch.”

Switch 2's GameCube Controller is revealed with the addition of GameCube games online on Nintendo Switch April 2 switch 2 direct. It has a very similar layout to the original GameCube controller, but works wirelessly, and has house, capture, C and ZL buttons on the Joy-Con 2 controller. A disclaimer in a trailer from Nintendo shows that the Switch 2's GameCube controller won't work with other games, which is why Nintendo must clarify this first.
