The Devil Crying Anime Adaptation Launched last week on Netflix and between all the demonic drama and satire, the outstanding plot of Season 1 is a surprisingly whimsical origin story about the character Mary Arkham – Ms. Aka – the show's main rival, Bunny. The plot has two contrasting animation styles, explores the motivations behind these characters and has no dialogue during most of its run.
According to Showrunner Adi Shankar, the decision to portray the realm of devils as a more magical reality was inspired by his childhood in Kolkata, India. “When I was a kid, Time magazine called it the dirtiest city in the world, with poverty everywhere,” Shankar said. “I can't say what everyone's experiences are, but it really, deeply, deeply influenced me as a kid. So I tried to really grab this feeling of despair and how there was nothing you could do. In the show, the human world is more serious. The demon world is adorable.”

Shankar explains how poverty became the norm in India at that time, and although he was not yet born, he still wanted to do some help from childhood. Those strong emotions entered the devil’s pathway, and Shnakar’s idea of how to encourage people to share various parts of their lives online also influenced the sixth episode of Devil’s Crying.
Shankar said: “Why there is no dialogue, why should you stay silent? We live in the world now, everything is so biggest, so loud, so much thrill, so much. Silence is profound. In a world that encourages you to post every five minutes, less words.”
