In the new content, there are illustrations, detailed world maps, notes by Patrick Rothfuss, an appendix to discuss world currency and calendars, and a guide to announcing various names and places throughout the novel.

The name of the wind tells the story of Kvothe, a young wizard from the Tymant world. It uses a unique style that takes first and third person narratives as Kvothe talks with the scribe about his past while a separate story is being revealed at the moment.
