The next video game movie is now available in theaters until dawn, but we recently learned that director David F. Sandberg has almost passed it. He said in an interview that he was considering giving up the IP-based movie after a negative reaction to the superhero movie Shazam: The Wrath of the Gods, saying he received a death threat.
“I mean, honestly, fans are going to get really, really crazy and angry at you. You can get death threats and everything, so after Shazam 2, I thought, 'I never want to do another IP-based movie because it's not worth it,' Sandberg told GamesRadar.
But, Sandberg said he read the script until dawn and thought it was “very interesting to do”, so he eventually signed on to do it. In particular, Sandberg said he locked in the film’s core storytelling ego, which is played in the time loop where survivors have to face different terror threats every night.
He explained: “I really think it's great for a writer to come up with the idea of this time loop where the night starts because you can get that feeling when you replay the game and make different choices. I think it's very much in the spirit of the game.”
When it was announced until the Dawn movie, some people questioned the movie not directly adapted the game, but a new story. But Sandberg said the story of the game will also bring about a series of challenges of its own.
“I think if we try to (recreate the game) we're going to get a lot of criticism because people will like, 'It's not great. It's not the same actor because, because, you know now, they're old now.' “You're not going to be able to improve the game, so you're going to be in a situation where you fail.” ”
Until dawn comes out now and there is one Reported production budget is $15 million. It is expected to bring as much as $10 million in the United States this weekend Estimated based on box office tracking.
